What PRP is

Platelet-Rich Plasma is a concentrated portion of your own blood, prepared in-office. We do a small blood draw, place the sample in a centrifuge, and separate the platelet-rich plasma layer from the rest of the blood. The result is a small volume of plasma that contains a higher concentration of growth factors than the original blood sample. Those growth factors signal cells in the treated area to repair, regenerate, and rebuild. The body uses them naturally during healing; PRP simply concentrates them and delivers them where they can be immediately used. There is no foreign material, no dye, and no synthetic drug component — everything in the PRP came from you.

How we use PRP at this practice

At Wellness & Longevity, we currently offer PRP combined with microneedling for facial skin rejuvenation. The microneedling creates micro-channels in the skin that signal collagen production; the PRP applied during the procedure pairs with that healing response and supports faster recovery and improved outcomes for many patients. Some practices offer PRP for hair restoration, joint applications, and other indications. We are focused on the skin applications, including face, and we do offer PRP for hair restoration for the right candidate on a case by case basis.

What to expect at your visit

  1. Brief consultation. We review your skin history, goals, and any medications or conditions that affect candidacy.
  2. Blood draw. A small sample of blood is drawn from your arm, similar to a routine lab draw. The sample stays in our office.
  3. Preparation. The sample is processed in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelet-rich plasma layer. While that runs, the treatment area is cleansed and a topical numbing cream is applied.
  4. Microneedling with PRP. We perform microneedling using SkinPen Precision and apply the PRP during and immediately after the treatment so the growth factors can travel through the micro-channels we just created. Total visit takes 60 to 75 minutes including consultation and prep.
  5. Aftercare. Skin appears mildly pink, similar to a light sunburn. A soothing serum is applied. You leave with simple post-treatment instructions.

Recovery and results

Most patients return to normal activity the same day. Pink skin appearance, swelling, and tenderness can last 24 to 72 hours.

Important considerations

PRP with microneedling may not be appropriate if you have active acne breakouts, certain skin conditions, blood-clotting disorders, are taking medications that affect coagulation, or are pregnant or nursing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tap any question to expand. If you do not see your question, give us a call at (916) 839-7740.

How much does microneedling with PRP cost?
$350 per session for microneedling combined with PRP, face only. A typical course is 3 sessions for best results, so plan on about $1,050 for the recommended series. Check our current promotion for any limited-time savings.
Is the blood draw painful?
Similar to a routine lab draw, a quick stick at the inside of the elbow. The sample is small. A topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area before microneedling itself.
How long do PRP results last?
The PRP-driven improvement develops over the weeks following the treatment as growth factors signal collagen and elastin production. Results from a series of 3 sessions typically last 12 to 18 months. Maintenance once or twice a year helps preserve results.
Is there downtime?
Most patients return to normal activity the same day. Pink-skin appearance lasts 24 to 72 hours. Bruising at the blood-draw site is common and resolves within a week.
Is PRP safe?
PRP uses your own blood, processed in-office, and applied to your own skin. There is no foreign material or synthetic drug. PRP does not cause allergies or possess immunogenicity, which makes it a safe alternative to any drug. Standard precautions apply, and certain medical conditions may make PRP inappropriate, we review them at your consultation.
