Why choose microneedling at Wellness and Longevity Medical PC: improves skin texture, reduces acne scars, brightens and evens tone, minimal downtime

What is microneedling?

Microneedling, sometimes called collagen induction therapy, is a minimally-invasive skin treatment that uses a sterile surgical steel micro device with very fine needles to create multiple controlled micro-channels in the surface of the skin. These micro-channels are too small to cause visible injury but signal the body to produce new collagen and elastin as it heals. Over a series of treatments, many patients notice smoother texture, softened fine lines, and improvement in the appearance of acne scars and enlarged pores. Because the treatment relies on your body’s own collagen response, microneedling is often chosen by patients looking for a natural approach to skin rejuvenation. Ask us about options for other areas of skin you wish to give an extra treat.

A good first step into our practice

Microneedling is one of the services we recommend most often as a starting point. It works well for patients of any age who want to address:
  • Fine lines and early signs of aging
  • Acne scarring and other textural irregularities
  • Enlarged or visible pores
  • Uneven skin tone and dullness
  • A general “skin reset” before exploring other treatments

Contraindications

Microneedling may not be appropriate if you have active skin cancer in the treatment area, active acne breakouts, active cold sore flair, certain skin conditions, keloid formation, bleeding disorders, or are pregnant or nursing. Systemic isotretinoin SHOULD BE DISCONTINUED for 6 months prior to the treatment (Accutane, Claravis). Hold off on the treatment for 4 weeks after Botox injection to the same area. Call us if allergy to Lidocaine is present. A consultation at your visit is the right way to confirm whether this treatment fits your skin and your goals. General answers from a provider are available free over the phone.

Before and after your treatment

Before your visit

  • Avoid topical retinoids, exfoliating acids, and harsh skin scrubs for at least 48 hours prior.
  • Come to your appointment with clean skin, no makeup.
  • Let us know if you have any history of cold sores or skin sensitivity.

After your visit

  • Use only the gentle post-treatment products we recommend for the first 24 to 48 hours.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and always use a broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen.
  • Skip heavy workouts, saunas, and hot showers till skin heals.
  • Initial results typically begin to appear within 4 – 6 weeks as new collagen forms, although “glow” may occur sooner.

Microneedling and PRP

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) uses a small tube of your own blood, spun down to concentrate the growth factors your body already makes, then applied during the microneedling. Patients who add it tend to heal faster and see results sooner. Ask our provider if this combination is right for your goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tap any question to expand. If you do not see your question, give us a call at (916) 839-7740.

How much does microneedling cost in Roseville?
Microneedling sessions are $250 per session face-only, or $350 per session combined with PRP. A typical course is 3 sessions for best results, so plan on about $750 for the recommended series ($1,050 with PRP). Check our current promotion for any limited-time savings.
How many sessions will I need?
Most patients see the best results from a series of three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. Maintenance twice a year helps preserve your results for years to come. Your provider will recommend a schedule based on your skin and your goals. A treatment planned ahead is an asset prior to that special event, such as wedding, a dream vacation, or anniversary.
What happens at my first visit?
Your first visit starts with a full consultation about your medical and skin history, goals, and any medications or conditions to consider. If you are a good candidate, we cleanse the treatment area, apply a topical numbing cream, and perform the microneedling using SkinPen Precision. The full visit typically takes about 60 to 75 minutes including consultation. You leave with simple post-treatment instructions and a soothing serum. Bring wide brim hat to protect your skin against California sun post treatment.
Does microneedling hurt?
Most patients describe the sensation as mild pressure, warmth, or light prickling rather than pain. We apply a topical numbing cream 30-45 min before the procedure to provide comfortable experience.
How long is the recovery?
Most patients return to normal activity the same day. Skin may appear pink and chaffed for 24 to 72 hours, similar to a sunburn. Makeup can typically be worn again after 24 hours had passed.
Is there downtime?
Pink-skin appearance lasts 24 to 72 hours.
Is microneedling safe for all skin types?
Microneedling with SkinPen is minimally invasive prescription only treatment studied for Fitzpatrick skin types II-IV when performed by a licensed provider. It is beneficial for all skin types as endorsed by American Academy of Dermatologists. Its FDA cleared indications are for acne scarring, and fine neck lines, with the rest of the skin treatment indications being off label. A short consultation is the right way to know if it is a good fit for you. Patients with active acne, certain skin conditions, or who are pregnant should discuss alternatives with the provider.
